VCI Receives Worksite Wellness Award from State of Vermont

October 7, 2008 - Vermont Composites, Inc. (VCI) of Bennington, Vermont received the 2008 Worksite Wellness, Physical Fitness and Sports Award from The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.  The award was presented by Governor James Douglas as part of the Worksite Wellness Conference held at the Hilton Hotel in Burlington Vermont.  Receiving the award on behalf of Vermont Composites was Pamela Halbur, Human Resources Manager.  Annual awards honor companies that support employee access to physical activity and promote good health both on, and off, the job.

At Vermont Composites, a nurse and physical therapist visit the workplace biweekly to complete health screenings, present wellness information and assess employee ergonomics.  An annual flu shot clinic is provided to employees at no cost.  Monthly cholesterol and blood pressure checks are also provided at minimal cost to employees. The company sponsors employee teams at a variety of athletic events including the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center 8 Week Trek for Health as well as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  In addition, VCI teams are sponsored by the company in local volleyball, softball, basketball and ski leagues.  Local gym memberships are subsidized.  All employees receive a $25 per month bonus for a workplace free of lost time accidents.

The company has also started the efforts to make the entire campus of buildings and grounds Tobacco Free effective March 1, 2009.  Financial assistance is currently being provided to employees that choose to complete smoking cessation programs or obtain smoking cessation medications.
Vermont Composites, Inc. designs and fabricates advanced carbon fiber composite structures for the aerospace, medical and industrial markets.  The company is ISO 9001:2000 and AS 9100 certified and is Nadcap approved.  VCI services a broad range of well known multi-national customers.  Manufacturing processes include layup, autoclave, resin transfer molding and press cure, CNC routing and machining, finishing and assembly.  Support functions include design, analysis, tooling design and testing.
