The Company
With more than 18,000 systems deployed around the globe, our client’s Security & Detection Systems is the world’s leading supplier of security screening systems. At home and abroad, their innovative technologies protect the traveling public, safeguard the flow of commerce and defend critical infrastructure against terrorism and other threats. Our client is the premier provider of advanced systems for inspecting checked baggage, checkpoint screening and cargo and border security and their screening products incorporate a variety of powerful and proven technologies: computed tomography, conventional and high-energy X-ray, metal detection, active millimeter wave imaging and energetic materials detection. For over 30 years, our client has developed and manufactured cutting-edge systems with the flexibility, accuracy, speed and reliability needed across the spectrum of demanding and complex security applications.
The Challenge
In the spring and summer of 2008, our client finalized the designs and technology for their latest generation of baggage scanning / explosives detection equipment. Free-standing, in-line and multi-level hold baggage and parcel screening systems meet the most demanding explosives detection performance, speed and reliability standards in the industry, featuring our client’s proprietary multi-view tomography technology. This latest equipment has the capability of producing truly superior image quality and therefore providing superior detection capability over previous generation equipment. They needed a supplier who could provide carbon fiber scanning tunnels that would allow their latest imaging technology to work to its full potential.
The Solution
Based on our many years of experience manufacturing carbon fiber imaging tunnels for imaging diagnostic applications and security screening equipment we were able to value engineer a truly superior, yet cost effective, scanning tunnel.
The Results
The Vermont Composites' scanning tunnel allows our client’s superior imaging technology to operate to its fullest extent providing the best picture quality and detection capabilities available in order to help keep the air traveling public as safe as possible.
